The forum is having a little tantrum and won't let me upload this as one post... so I will spread it out here:

We have come up with a few changes this year. There will be, on average, 6 challenges presented each month. Occasionally there may be more. The idea is that there will be 3 LO type challenges, one Year In Review challenge, one general card challenge and one Christmas card challenge. HOWEVER you are not limited to LO's and / or cards. If you can use the criteria to create a card or OTP then your creation will qualify to go into the monthly challenges. Sometimes the card challenges may also lend themselves to a LO and, if that is the case, you may also do that... so interpret them as you will - just let us know how you link your creation to the challenge. Albums will stay open until the first of the following month OR until the next month's challenges are posted

Our first challenge is a sketch created by Marion

Here is my card interpretation of the sketch:

And here is my altered book page that started as the sketch but has since had so many layers of gesso added that it is difficult to find the sketch in there... but if you look at the photo placement and, underneath that there are a few vertical papers and then several layers of horizontal washi tape and stamps. I have also "loosely" placed my quote where the title should be

Challenge two - Colour challenge
Fly your true colours! With Australia Day this month it is time to get patriotic. We would like to see some green and gold flying.
Here is a yellow and green card I have made to fit this criteria but, remember, this can be a LO or OTP as well.

Challenge three - Stash busting
Time to stash bust your alphas... there always seem to be all of those left over alphas that just don't fit with the letters you need. Use your alphas in a creative way, either by changing letters, mixing up alphas in your title, changing the colours to something more useful or using your alphas to create a feature on your project.

I have used this challenge to inspire my card book title page for this year. This is the third year I have put all of my cards together bound with a front and back cover and some hinged rings. Sadly, since 2011, several people are no longer with us and it has been nice to flick through the cards from the past two years and see their handwriting. I only wish I had started this earlier before my grandmothers past away.

Challenge four - Year In Review
if you have done a YIR in 2013 your challenge is to finish another month in that and, if possible, to complete the album altogether. If you are planning on starting in 2014 then your challenge is to create your cover or your title page.
I am up to November in 2013 but forgot to take photos this morning. I will try to remember to put some into the gallery.

Challenge five -
January is a time of new year's resolutions and trying new things. We would like you to create a card that is a twist on the traditional rectangular card with straight edges opening to the right hand side. You might want to make a trifold card, an easel card or just a card that has a fancy edge. Different shaped cards would also work here... just step a little out of your comfort zone. If you want to convert this challenge to a LO challenge I guess we would need a shaped page.
Wink
I have done two cards - one with a bit of a fold-back front and the other with a gated front that meets in the middle.

Challenge 6 - Christmas
Christmas card - Red and green are such traditional colours for Christmas. We would like you to start with these colours in mind but to twist it up a little.. you might add different colours or just change the red a green slightly e.g. pink and green or, as I have done, red & aqua

does the christmas card challenge have to be a christmas card? i know that kind of defeats the purpose of a christmas card challenge, but other than for teachers, i don't Do christmas cards...

Great challenges to start off the year! Something new and different always helps me kick start my mojo I think. Looking forward to getting stuck into these.

It certainly doesn't have to be a card - it could be a LO or OTP - I will let Lorraine make the ruling on whether it needs to be Christmas based or not Very Happy

Oh poo!! I deleted my Avatar to put up a new one, and it won't work. It's one I've used previously. Any ideas?
