This is a very simple technique that gives an interesting result.



Step 1



Take two stamps. One would be a plain, solid stamp of your main image, in my case the butterfly. The other should have a small pattern, so I chose the flower.

Step 2




Take two contrasting inks.


Step 3



Put the softer colour onto the solid shape, the stronger one onto the patterned one.


Step 4



Press them together.


Step 5



Apply your main stamp. For me, that was the butterfly. I'm sorry the blue doesn't show up in the photo. You can stamp directly onto your page, or create a 3D effect by cutting it out, inking the edges and THEN applying it to the page.

I think some people call that technique stamp 'kissing'. Not actually done it myself but have seen some SU samples ages ago.
