Pull Up a Perch Next to Katherine

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Katherine (aka katydid) has kindly allowed us to gain a little insight into her scrapping journey so, if you need to, grab a cuppa and enjoy her story.

What initially drew you to begin scrapping?

I first experienced scrapping in 2002 when I went to a Creative Memories Party (?) at a friends house.  I thought it was a terrific way to preserve memories and was quite keen.  I initially did an album of my honeymoon and then didn’t do anything else for a few years.

When did you start scrapping?

I had been going to cardmaking and stamping at our local Arts Centre when I first moved to Yarloop in 2004, but found that I really didn’t like stamping as such because I couldn’t get my images to be even – so I stopped going and tried my hand at patchwork!!   After my daughter was born in 2005, I started taking lots of photos and was talking to Annie one day and she showed me her album.  I was very inspired because it was very different to the CM way of doing things and so I started…..

How did you find Chookscraps?

Annie got me on to Chookscraps – and then I went to my first retreat…woohoo!!  Got lots done there and again was very inspired by everyone’s different styles.

Do you want to share one of your early LO’s with us?

Very CM!!

What is your favourite tool / technique, manufacturer?

Manufacturer is definitely Kaisercraft – I love all their papers and bling!!

Who do you find inspires you most or, from where do you get your inspiration?

I get most of my inspiration at Retreat when I see what other people are doing – and I also love, love, love Anna’s work!!

What is the most useful piece of advice you have ever been given?

Just have fun!

What advice would you give to a beginner scrapper?

If you are struggling with LO ideas, or even what papers, embellishments to use – use a series of coordinating papers from manufacturer and grab a sketch!

Would you please share 3 of your favourite LO’s and let us know what you like about them or why they are special to you.

Adore

Just completed this LO and I just love how it all came together.

My Family

This I “scraplifted” from Anna in Idol and I just love that it is a photo of all 3 of us.

Sandcastles

My first attempt at using Photoshop.

Thanks Katherine.

I’ve been a little remiss in not featuring our April birthday girls before now!

Rachel (lil rach) has a funky style which is seen in these layouts and card I found in the gallery.

The overall round 2 winner is Shara!

The people’s choice was a clear winner, Wendyq!

The runners-up were

Geraldine

Jem

princess tamara

and emma

Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all those who participated and produced some amazing layouts.

Pull up a Perch next to Emma

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

It’s been awhile since we pulled up a perch next to one of our Chooks so let’s find out a little about Emma from Collie.

What initially drew you to begin scrapping?

I was living in Karratha and a scrap shop opened that offered classes so I decided to have a go.

When did you start scrapping?

I took a class in November 2003, but after 3 classes Glen, my husband, got a job in Useless Loop so I couldn’t continue with the classes. I started scrapping again in 2006 when we moved to Bunbury. .

How did you find Chookscraps?

I was at a scrapping class in Bunbury and mentioned that I was moving to Collie and one of the scrappers told me that Chookscraps was based in Collie.

Do you want to share one of your early LO’s with us?

This is the very first layout that I completed.

What is your favourite tool / technique, manufacturer?
Tool – Probably my cutter
Technique – Inking, mainly with pinecone ink.
Manufacturer – I like lots of them, but at the moment I love Sassafrass Lass.

Who do you find inspires you most or, from where do you get your inspiration?
I love looking at the Chookscraps gallery, and I love looking at blogs.

What is the most useful piece of advice you have ever been given?
Don’t be scared to use your favourite photo. If you aren’t happy, you can always print the photo again and have another go.

What advice would you give to a beginner scrapper? .
Just have fun and have a go.

Why do you scrap now? e.g. for future generations, for relaxation etc.
I scrap for fun and relaxation. I hope my layouts survive for future generation, but that is not why I scrap. When I scrap it is my “me time”.

Do you have any scrapping “highlights” you would like to share with us?
I have never submitted a layout to a magazine and the only place that I share my layouts is on Chookscraps. My highlights would be winning a round in the Raining Sketches competition and winning a cybercrop challenge.

What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
I am a stay at home Mum with 2 boys aged 5 and 15 months. I used to be a primary school teacher. I live in Collie, my husband works in one of the mines here.

Would you please share 3 of your favourite LO’s and let us know what you like about them or why they are special to you.

This is layout has the first photo of my 2 boys together.

I love the photo on this layout, I think it is so cute.

The 3rd layout is my round 2 Masterchook entry. When I was scrapping it I felt it was going to be a disaster, I had even found the CD with the photo on it so I could reprint it if the layout looked awful. I had been moving things around on it all weekend and in the end I said to my husband ” I’m just going to stick it down and if it looks too bad I’ll just have to start again”. When it was finished it looked much better that I thought it was going to. I think it is my favourite of all my layouts.
